Lead Bank Participates in First Fridays, Streetcar Grand Opening

May 02, 2016

KANSAS CITY, MO (MAY 2016) Lead Bank, a locally owned financial institution dedicated to the needs of small businesses, will be hosting several events for May First Fridays and the Streetcar Grand Opening, May 6-7. Lead Bank is located in the Crossroads Arts District at 1801 Main Street, 64108.

“We’re excited to be involved in the downtown community and able to support the streetcar initiative and our art friends in the celebration,” said Vice Chairman Josh Rowland. “We believe the streetcar initiative is an innovation that’s taking our community into tomorrow—creating a more connected and vibrant city.”

Throughout the entire weekend, the bank will be handing out free totes at a first come, first serve basis, and a large poster of the winning KC Streetcar illustration by KCAI student Madison Crabtree will be on display. Those who take a picture with the illustration and share via social media will be entered to win gift cards to local restaurants and businesses.

On Friday, May 6, the bank will be giving out coffee and donuts from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. as the public watches the streetcar take its first ride. From 4-5:30 p.m., the bank is hosting an open house for weaving artist Debbie BarrettJones, who was commissioned to create an art piece for Lead Bank. Barrett-Jones will be available for a meet and greet to talk about the new commission in the Lead Bank lobby. Her new commission will be hung for viewing and guests can enjoy champagne and cake.

Additionally, the new Community Art Wall banners will be on display in the Lead Bank Parking lot on Friday. The three designs for the new installation were selected from the Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI) steamroller demonstration that took place at Lead Bank on April 15. The banners will feature three black and white images created by KCAI printmaking students Melissa Gonzalez, Monica Dominguez, Faith Bayless, Miranda Poe and Hannah Kaplan.

After the ceremony, First Fridays fun will continue until 10 p.m. Twisted Asian and American Fusion food trucks will be on-site, as well as Wicket & Peg for free bourbon and Missouri mule tastings. DJ Elgin Smith will perform at 5:30 p.m. and guests will be able to play croquet and win prizes including Wicket & Peg T-shirts and a bottle of bourbon. The bank will also be serving cookies and refreshments Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., for those riding the streetcar.

“The streetcar plans made an impact on our decision to open a location in Crossroads last year,” Rowland said. “Now that it is finally here at our fingertips, right outside the bank, it’s very exciting—not only for us but for the community as a whole.”
